Job Description. Whitecanvas is in need of a Web User Interface Developer/Designer that can convert big ideas into tangible web products. The Web UI Developer will be the primary intermediary between the Graphics Design team and the Web Development Team. In addition to producing his/her own designs, the Web Designer’s primary deliverable is to take ideas and concepts (either from basic sketches or fully developed Photoshop/Illustrator mock-ups files) into workable web pages to be integrated by the Web Development Team. Pages to be designed include truly innovative, best-in-class designs and features for the Whitecanvas platform – e.g. Easy to use tools for digital media storage, networking, sharing, and playback; Project collaboration tools; Retail platform; Mobile applications, etc. The position is on a part-time / contractual basis and candidates must be available approximately 20-30 hours per week. In addition, candidates must be available to be ‘on-call’ 24/7. Qualifications: – Minimum 3 years of web design experience – Extensive understanding and experience in hand coding HTML /XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets, Flash, and familiarity with web standards and CSS -driven layouts – Experience with AJAX (specifically jQuery, JSON , selectors, and DOM ) web development techniques – Solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues, and knowledgeable in development tradeoffs between speed, design, flexibility, and the underlying page architecture – Significant experience designing and developing user-centric web sites in a professional software development environment – Experience working with a remote team – Ability to self-manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines – Must have an acutely developed attention to detail – Experience designing for a social network a plus – Possess exceptional judgment, be highly analytical, have strong communication skills, be detail-oriented yet able to look at a wide array of choices and identify what truly matters, be calm in the face of fast-moving and hectic environments, and be very self-directed – Other professional traits that are not unique to this position, but necessary for Whitecanvas are: • Decisive • Is known for high integrity • Is innovative and can simplify • Has relentlessly high standards (to the point that most other people would think they are being unreasonable) • Has strong results orientation • Highly forward-thinking • Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with an intellectual curiosity and drive • Has the innate ability to inspire passion in others
