Before ever the innovations in the printing technologies and way before the internet evolution, business owners have learned to trust and depend on small and reliable print shops. It was an accepted fact that the quality and reliability of local, traditional print shops have filled the specific needs necessary and keeping business up to its day-to-day operations. The people in business, especially those in the marketing wing of the company know how valuable printing services are to them.
With the arrival of Internet and innovative digital printing, there is now a new option for less traditional or shorter - run printing jobs. Gone are the days when there is a necessity to order a minimum of thousands of copies of printing jobs in order for it to be cost-effective but being unable to use them all and as promptly as you would have preferred. The information technology boom offered quick transfer of electronic files over the Internet. Digital printing technology is also more affordable than ever and ensures a more professional, quality output.
This significant modernization gave small business owners the full-hilt capacity to print glossy, full-color and graphic-laden printed outputs at affordable prices.
Before, the traditional print jobs would start with the graphic designer conceptualizing a file on their computer. After such time that the file has been crafted, the next step would be to have it converted into a film negative. The film negative is used by a press operator to manually set up and configure on the actual printing press. The set-up time – labor and material preparation takes up a large percentage on the final cost of the print job.
Nowadays, by utilizing a fully digital printing operation, the entire processes are completely handled electronically in the swiftest possible time. Though the digital process starts in the same way as the traditional process, the next few steps do not entail manual work anymore. The graphic design document is sent to the printer electronically. It could take on the form of an e-mail attachment or use a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, depending on the document size. When the printer has the files already, the printing company opens your print job in their shop’s computer. Computers in the printing shops are already directly linked to the printing press. Thus the files get sent electronically from the computer to the press without having to go through the entire hoopla of pre press set ups.
It is easy to take stock how short run digital printing services have become ideal for small business owners. It just leaves you with the cost of material – paper and ink, that is and certain fees for their electronic equipments used in your print job’s printing process. In fact, even large companies have taken advantage of the innovations.
Some company owners also took this a step further and offered the same type of service for branded products. The massive and imaginative upsurge of printed promotional items is a main evidence of how short run digital printing services have taken charge to save companies money, time and effort in their marketing agenda.
