The Golden State lives by the motto of "Eureka!" which means "I have found it!" You just might be saying the same thing when you find the perfect programs for your career needs at graphic design schools in California.
California is a great place for new starts. Gold was discovered in the hills of California in 1848, sparking the infamous Gold Rush. More people live in California than any other state--almost 47 million, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau numbers--and the largest number of immigrants choose to settle in California.
The state ranks 48th in cost of living, and the per capita annual income in 2009 was $42,325. Largest cities by population include Anaheim, Bakersfield, Chula Vista, Fresno, and Oakland. San Diego has over 1,300,000 people, while Los Angeles tops them all with almost 4,000,000 residents. Major industries include agriculture, biotechnology, and manufacturing.
Graphic Design Careers in California
Pursuing a graphic design career means going after that degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bachelor's degree is required for most entry-level positions in the field. Those who choose to work as graphic design assistants or already hold a bachelor's degree in another field can earn their certificate or associate's degree to jump-start a graphic design career.
Employment of graphic designers is expected to grow by 13 percent from 2008 to 2018, or about as fast as average for all occupations. Almost 28,000 graphic designers were employed in California in 2009, with a mean annual income of $57,180. That's substantially more than the national mean average income for graphic designers, which was $47,820 in 2009.
