Those who live in Colorado already know what it is like to reach for the sky--after all, Colorado has the highest average elevation of any state in the Union. Those massive peaks are what has fueled the ski resorts that bring in 1.8 billion dollars every year. Other significant industries include food products, printing, and publishing. Graphic designers are often needed in the publishing world, which is another reason why attending graphic design schools in Colorado just makes sense.
If you choose to pursue an education and work in the state, here are a few other facts you need to know:
Graphic Design Careers in Colorado
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for most entry level graphic design jobs. Many graphic design schools offer a certificate or associate degree, and these are good for working as an assistant to a graphic designer, or supplementing the bachelor's degree you already hold in another subject. Once the degree is in hand, experience becomes key to advancement.
In 2009, there were about 3,600 graphic designers working in Colorado. The mean annual salary for a graphic designer in the state was $45,100 in 2009. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment growth of 13 percent for graphic designers from 2008 through 2018.
