In 1639, the first written Constitution was born in what is the modern state of Connecticut. Today, the Constitution State is known as the 5th state to join the Union, home to the nation's oldest newspaper, and the state that made up half of George Washington's troops in the Revolutionary War in 1776. With roots like that, it's safe to say that graphic design schools in Connecticut can boost your career, too.
Today, Connecticut boasts over 3,500,000 people within its borders. Largest cities include Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, and Stamford. Connecticut ranks 45th in the nation in cost of living. The per capita personal income for those in the state was $54,297 in 2009. Major industries include production of transportation equipment, scientific instruments, and chemical products.
Graphic Design Careers in Connecticut
Those who want to dive into a career in graphic design should begin with education. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bachelor's degree is the typical requirement for entry level positions in graphic design. However, a certificate or associate's degree might suffice to take a position as an assistant in a graphic design firm. Once the degree has been earned, experience becomes an important aspect of advancement.
Employment for graphic designers is expected to grow by 13 percent from 2008 to 2018. Many of those new jobs should favor those who are well-versed in interactive media. Over 2,600 graphic designers were employed in the state of Connecticut in 2009, with a mean annual salary of $55,780. That is higher than the national mean annual salary of $47,820 for graphic designers.
