South Carolina Design Destinations and Art Inspirations
South Carolina is home to Brookgreen Gardens, the world's largest collection of outdoor sculpture. Just outside of Charleston, the state's second-largest city, lies Middleton Place, the oldest landscaped gardens in the United States. Within Charleston itself, you'll find the large Gibbes Museum of Art, one of the United States' oldest art organizations. The city's annual MOJA Arts Festival celebrates African-American and Caribbean arts, music, and culture. Art and design students who venture to the center of South Carolina can find its largest city, Columbia, full of independent theatre groups and a growing arts scene that compliments its revitalizing downtown.
