About graphic file formats - Adobe Illustrator can import and export many common file formats. Graphic file formats are distinguished by the way they represent graphic information. Graphic information can be represented as either vector drawings or bitmap images. Some graphic file formats contain only vector drawings or only bitmap images, but many can include both in the same file.

PCX - The PCX format was originally a proprietary raster file format developed in the early 1980s by ZSoft Corporation to support PC Paintbrush.
PCX Graphic File Format - The PCX format is a relatively simple format that provides a minimum of compression using Run Length Encoding (RLE). RLE means that the file can be read from start to finish in one pass and encoded or decoded without any holistic information
