Templates saves money and time but once we have to want to develop it we should add specific graphics and designs.

As a designer, I will admit to sometimes using a template on my professional site to test before suggesting it to a client(currently doing so). I will say that the "PRO" templates are limited. They don't allow for much in the way of specific design modification lately. The back end is a mesh of control panels that are only useful if you want to use the site "out of the box".
If that is your desire though, they can work quite nicely as long as they have true functionality besides what they are advertising.

It is always good to hire a freelance graphic designer rather than using a template bought off a website selling templates. This is because, after some day you might find a clone site with just different contents somewhere. Also the difference between a custom built website and a template modified site is like the difference between tailor made clothes and ready made clothes. It doesnt fit properly. Also your logo should match the colour scheme of the website. All these things are lacking from a template based design.

A lot of business owners look at the bottom line when choosing whether or not to template or custom design their website. What will it cost? A templated site might look great on paper, but i'm going to agree with post #3 on this one. In the end, two things happen: They hire a designer to redesign their template, already cautious about the time and resources they've used to get it up and running, or they trash the whole idea and are turned off by the web as a whole.

It's important when talking to people about site design to 1) Educate them on what is possible on the web, if they don't already know 2) Assure them that doing business on the web is safe, secure, and profitable, and 3) Empower them with tools and resources to take ownership of the site so they are more engaged in its growth.

Always choose the designer option...

Well I would say that being a web designer myself, who specialises in bespoke website design. But I think using a template, although some look great, they will be used over and over again. Whereas if you have a designer build your own personal site, its yours and one in a million.

But make sure you use the right designer...Like ME!

I think its best to design your own website yourself. It might not be very eye catching but at least you can update your website when one fine morning you find your web designer not returning your calls or have left the city for good.

Good resource can be found at :-

As a graphic designer for more than 23 years I have been designing websites for 7 or so now and I can tell you that most customers who start off with templates, and are serious about their websites, end up trashing them for customer designs. Editing them can be very challenging if you are not familiar with the code. Just my 2 cents.

Templates can save time and money, but to make it a more unique site you will need to get into the graphics and code to make significant changes to the website template. If that is out of the question, then you are probably better off with hiring a web design to create your site.

Its such a risk - template sites.
i see the benefit out of having a tradition, personalised own website. How else can you really show your website off?
