Photoshop Backgrounds for Graphic and Web Designers - Part II

Abstract Photoshop Backgrounds
In the following tutorials, you’ll learn how to make Photoshop backgrounds that are more abstract and artsy. Since these themes are open-ended in nature, they can be used for many types of graphic design projects and web design layouts. You can scale these backgrounds to be used as buttons, backdrops, or poster elements. Have fun with them and modify the look of these images as much as you want.

Brushstroke Background
brush-stroke-backgroundThis Photoshop background is very customizable and you’ll have a great deal of latitude in turning this background effect into a host of different configurations and styles. The pattern can be adjusted to resemble wisps of smoke or rays of light. It’s a nice background for creating a calm or ethereal mood.

.
Stripe Abstract Background
stripe-abstract-backgroundThis background is very easy to produce and is so generic in nature that it can be used in a variety of projects or uses. You’ll have your background up and running in a matter of minutes. For a more interesting take on this background, try using multiple colors for a rainbow effect,

.
Warped Abstract Background
warped-abstract-backgroundHere is a background that can be “artsy” by applying different Photoshop filters on the image multiple times. By using the distort-spherize filter, you’ll get a pop-art effect. Using the distort-polar coordinates filter will make the image resemble a fractal pattern. Try different color combinations for added dramatic effect.

.
Organic Abstract Background
easy-abstract-backgroundWe call this one organic because it reminds us of a feather floating in the wind. The actual pattern you create may be similar to the one shown here, but can be modified to tone down the white areas or increase the feathery effect in the background. Using this image as a Photoshop tile can be interesting if you want a repeated image effect.

Next Time…
We’ll complete this series of Photoshop background tutorials with some of the more colorful ones. Until next time, take care.
