MOCKUPS/DUMMY LAYOUTS - A Mock Up Layout is a preliminary layout showing the design, position of illustrations and text prior to the final reproduction. A “Mock-Up” is a representative sample of the final printed piece. Other ways of saying Mockups are dummy layouts, and comps (comprehensive artwork).

Dummies for Smarties - This article is an attempt to fill in the gaps. There are almost as many ways to make dummies as there are people who make them, but I have asked a number of author/artists, editors and agents what they prefer to see. Most of the advice in this article is meant for unpublished writer/illustrators.

Dummy Pages in Newspapers - has become something of a lost art since the advent of desktop publishing. Prudent editors still dummy any freestanding page, that is, one that does not have an established page structure.
How Do You Mark Design Proofs That You Send to Clients? - Marking any proofs with a stamp or watermark is a standard business practice that serves two purposes. It readily identifies the work as being not a final copy, in need of proofing or approval, and prevents intentional or accidental use of the material as final or camera-ready art.
