Yeah Quicktime X does have a built in screen recorder, but unfortunately you can not select just a portion of the site if you wanted that. It forces you to do the whole screen.

Our new iMac has 2400x1440. So a portion can be edited out easily with no loss in resolution.
You can use WonderShare software if you do not have access to video editing software.
