Post Is this a good buy?
I'm a graphic designer studying photography with hopes of offering my clients semi-professional photography services. I'm looking to buy a good camera - one I can begin and grow with.

I found this on Craigslist. Any good? Price: $625 firm

Nikon D80 Body (excellent condition), less than a year old
Nikon Lens: Nikkor DX 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED
Manuals, box and charger and chords, software plus lens hood
4gig SC Card

Proview UV protector for Lens.

Both body and lens are an excellent choice for a beginner and offers flexibility. Price seems good. Ask if ther are any scratches on the lens and if the sensor has ever been cleaned. If sensor has not been cleaned, you will want to get this done at some point. You can get your own kit and do it yourself if you feel comfortable or find a camera shop to do it for you.

sk the seller why they are selling it. If it is because they are getting a new Nikon model or going to Canon, jump on it.

Thanks JDawg, especially for the questions I should ask the seller. I'm so excited to get a camera and start practicing but I don't want to make a hasty, foolish purchase. I'm emailing the questions right now!

Glndi,

Its probably a bit late but that is a decent camera to get started on, especially if it is the first time you have to get used to using a camera on an ongoing basis as they are very forgiving. Hope its going well

A decent camera is really the best initial point in photography. Ask the reason for selling and make sure everything is sturdy and functional.

The D80 is a great camera and that sounds like a pretty good deal. I've got a D80 and the 18-70 lens and they're a great combo. Check sites like KEH and B&H Photo to compare used prices.

I am getting Nikon D40 for around $350 with 18-55mm ED kit lens and Nikon D80 for $800 with 18-135mm kit lens.Do you think that I am getting the camera in very cheap price.
