First Guide to Postscript - This is meant to be a simple introduction to programming in the PostScript page description language from Adobe. This document is not meant to be a comprehensive reference manual (although it does contain an index of some of PostScript's standard operators and a list of various errors). There are far better reference books, if this is what you need. Instead, this is meant as an easily accessible on-line tutorial. It was written with the assumption that you have some experience programming and are familiar with concepts like arrays and variables.

PS, Do I Really Need You? - Postscript printers and the language of desktop publishing. Desktop publishers often ask "Do I really need a PostScript* printer?" and "Do I really need to know how to create PostScript files?" The answer is it depends. The Ghost(script) in the Machine - It has taken a while but Adobe's PostScript has endured (and evolved) to become the industry-standard page description language. Even Hewlett-Packard and IBM are starting to include PostScript in a large number of their printers (sometimes in addition to their proprietary PDLs like HP's PCL 5). In the process, HP leaves the printer battleground littered with the corpses of millions of non-PostScript LaserJets, DeskJets and PaintJets. Millions more printers from other vendors emulate HP's PCL, but don't have PostScript. Fortunately, a software package called Ghostscript has arisen which brings these printers back to life - complete with PostScript compatibility.
The User-Friendly PostScript Resource - Most people can figure out for themselves that printing is a multi-billion dollar industry. However, many people don't figure out that it is also a high technology industry until their first print job goes off track!

When do I use a PS driver? When do I use a PCL driver? - Both Adobe's PS and HP's PCL drivers are page desciption languages. This means they are both languages that describe how to print a page. Each has its own positive and negative qualities, and they are good for different things.
