BBEDIT HTML EDITOR SUPPORT ARTICLES: Links to Articles & Tutorials for BBEDIT ( Barebones Edit) HTML EDITOR for MACINTOSH (MACS) OSX

macdevcenter - BBEdit 8.0 -- A Developer's Viewpoint - This version does not disappoint, even though I am not excited about all of the new features. I've banged on this latest release for a couple of months, talked to other people using it, and can now affirmatively say that if you aren't using version 8, you are missing out. If you aren't using BBEdit at all, well, you just haven't seen how easy things can be.

macdevcenter - BBEdit: Its Unix Support Doesn't Suck Either, Part 1
- Editor's note -- This first article of a two-part series introduces you to BBEdit's Unix support features. If your background is Macintosh development, you will learn how to take advantage of these features and incorporate them into your development process. If you are a Unix developer coming to Mac OS X, you will learn how to carry over your development techniques using Mac OS X tools. Some of the topics are not strictly Unix-based features, but are still quite interesting and useful.

macdevcenter - BBEdit: Its Unix Support Doesn't Suck Either, Part 2 - Editor's note: In part one of this series, Kevin O'Malley introduced you to BBEdit's Unix support features. Now, in part two, he drills down into filters, scripts, Emacs key bindings, and more.

developer apple - Bare Bones of BBEdit - Rich Siegel of Bare Bones Software is accustomed to being on the cutting edge of Mac OS X development. In March of 2001, his company was one of the first to deliver native commercial products for Mac OS X. Recently, Bare Bones released version 7.1 of BBEdit, their popular and critically acclaimed text and HTML editor for the Macintosh. The new version of BBEdit is the first commercial application to incorporate support for the Mac OS X Web Kit, a system component which provides an API to the Web content engine used by Safari (the Mac OS X default web browser developed by Apple). “Web Kit is a very big deal,” says Rich. “The Safari engine supports all modern standards, and the Web Kit SDK makes it easy to add this engine’s capabilities to any application you’re developing.

macdevcenter - Scripting Rectangular Selections in BBEdit 7 - It's a feature that has long been offered in many other text editors (mostly on other platforms), thus, it has been a frequent request from BBEdit users who've seen the feature elsewhere. Rectangular selections make it easier to work with tabular formatted text files. For example, you can easily delete the first 10 characters on every line in a file with one press of the Delete key.

macworld - BBEdit Rules the Web - Truly, we live in a world of scientific wonders. Just a few years ago, I was writing HTML code in Eudora. But then came the revolution that was PageMill, the first program that let you create Web sites visually, without having to know the code. For me, the rocket had left the pad.

macworld - BBEdit 8.0.3 - New Document and Sources drawers facilitate efficient use of multiple documents; New Text Factory allows easy batch processing; New Preview Server includes script results in previews.

mymac - BBEdit 8.03 Bare Bones Software - BBEdit is designed to edit text; it focuses solely on letting you write and edit your words with speed and power. BBEdit is not a word processor. It doesn't allow fancy page or character formatting, nor does it handle graphics. But it has packed with more useful features for text editing and manipulation than any other Macintosh application I know.

yourmaclife - TextWrangler 2.0 and BBEdit 8 - Admittedly, it's odd to do two products at once like this, but the truth is, Text Wrangler and BBEdit complement each other well enough that there's a lot of logic looking at both of them at once. Both products are, without a doubt, the premiere text editors on the Mac, and can hold up to any program on any platform regardless of price. While this is easy for Text Wrangler 2, since it's free, BBEdit retails for $199.00USD, so for it to be able to stand with free products like Emacs and others is quite impressive. But they both do, and well.

macaddict - BBEdit 8.0 - Web authors will be happy to know that, holding true to Bare Bones Software's tag line, BBEdit 8.0 "doesn't suck." In fact, the latest version has a whole lot going for it. The new features reinforce BBEdit's position as a leader in HTML authoring, without making the application slow and bloated.

wpdfd - BBEdit 8 - When I first started designing Web pages way back in 1993, there were no HTML editors and only one browser – NCSA Mosaic. I was a hand-coder from the start and at that time I used Microsoft Word as my HTML editor because it had a lot more going for it than SimpleText. It only took a couple of days to learn HTML in those days, there wasn't much of it and it was considerably easier than scripting Director or HyperCard.

macintouch - BBEdit - We love Bare Bones Software's BBEdit for its amazing reliability, impeccable support and the power of its text-editing features, which we use every day in creating MacIn Touch web pages, as well as a myriad of other tasks.

atpm - BBEdit 7.0.1 - BBEdit is a powerful general-purpose text editor with a strong Macintosh heritage. Although it’s useful for a wide variety of tasks, many of the features are designed specifically for Web developers and programmers. ATPM has previously reviewed versions 4, 5, and 6. This review will focus mainly on what’s new in BBEdit 7.

en wikipedia - BBEdit - BBEdit is a text editor originally developed for Macintosh System 6 and now for Mac OS X. It is made by Bare Bones Software. BBEdit is not a word processor, meaning it does not have text formatting or page layout features. BBEdit's audience includes programmers and web designers. Bare Bones Software also made a free and less-featured version of BBEdit called BBEdit Lite. They discontinued BBEdit Lite at version 6.1 and replaced it with TextWrangler, which initially cost money (though significantly less than BBEdit), then several years later was released for free.

cgi bin - Using BBEdit's Batch Replace For Easy File Editing - If you need to make the same change to many HTML files, BBEdit gives you an easy way to do so: batch find and replace.

blankreb - Make BBEdit into an AppleScript Development Environment
BBEdit has some outstanding features that make it an excellent source code editor. It is integrated with the shell, has extensive Perl capabilities, features a powerful find-and-replace, compare differences, extensive HTML features, and more. With a little work, a scripter can add many powerful AppleScript development tools to BBEdit that build on each other in a completely customizable environment, utilize the special capabilities of the editor and tap into the resources of other applications. Sounds a lot like the Macintosh way to me.

webdesign about - BBEDIT - BBEdit is the leading professional HTML and text editor for the Macintosh. Specifically crafted in response to the needs of Web authors and software developers, this award-winning product provides an abundance of features for editing, searching, and manipulation of text. BBEdit transforms text with high performance.

webdesign about - BBEdit Tips and Tricks - BBEdit is an excellent text editor for the Macintosh with a large and loyal following of web designers, programmers, and others who use it for their work. This page focuses on tips and tricks for BBEdit users who use BBEdit for HTML or Perl, but also has some tips that will be useful to anyone who uses BBEdit. The advice on this page may contain some information which is only useful in the Pro version, so keep that in mind if you use the Lite version.

answers - BBEdit - BBEdit is a text editor previously for Mac OS Classic and now for Mac OS X. It is made by Bare Bones Software. BBEdit is self-consciously not a word processor, meaning it does not have text formatting or page layout features. BBEdit's audience includes programmers and web designers. Bare Bones Software also made a free and less-featured version of BBEdit called BBEdit Lite. They discontinued BBEdit Lite at version 6.1, which they have replaced with TextWrangler.

everything2 - BBEdit - The most wonderful application available exclusively for the Mac. I only know what about 3% of the commands do, and it's still the most commonly used piece of software on my computer. Among other things, I create about 95% of my writeups in BBEdit. It's created by Bare Bones Software and the current version is BBEdit 7.0.2.

macdevcenter - Using Unix Filters and Scripts - Let's take a look at some examples of how to use filters and scripts in BBEdit.

mactech - BBEdit Plug-In Programming - Bare Bones Software's BBEdit is a powerful text editor. A text editor is not a word processor (where the output is intended to be a printed page). BBEdit is just for text files -- the source file format for almost all compilers and interpreters. Many developers prefer using BBEdit or another third party editor instead of the text tool built into standard development environments.

farm tucows - Two-Part Article on BBEdit: "Its UNIX Support Doesn't Suck Either" - Whenever someone used to ask me where my loyalties lie in the great vi/Emacs debate, I would always reply with "BBEdit".

findArticle - BBEdit version control.(Web Publishing) - If you're a Web developer, even minor errors--a simple typo in your code, for example--can create major problems. But you can easily track down and reverse such mistakes by setting up version-control software. This powerful tool records all changes to a document and lets you quickly step back to an earlier version--even if you've changed and saved the file many times since then. Just think of it as your personal time machine.

designbyfire - For the greater good of Design, p.2 - I just purchased BBEdit 8.0 a few hours ago. The new tab and windowing management was enough to get me to upgrade. I've long hated the window management issues with BBEdit ever since I had to stop using Homesite when I switched back over to a Mac.

macfixit - BBEdit 8.0.1: Problems with FTP connectivity after update - A handful of readers report that the BBEdit 8.0.1 update, released last week, causes problems for the program's FTP connectivity -- particularly the ability to save files directly to a server.

macobserver - OS X Compatible BBEdit Lite 6.1 Released - Bare Bones Software has released an OS X compatible version of BBEdit Lite 6.1. BBEdit Lite is a powerful and popular text editing utility, and the new version features several feature enhancements including the ability to handle quoted text, such as what is found in e-mail messages. According to Bare Bones Software..

mcelhearn - BBEdit The Text Editor for Processing Words Updated
BBEdit, from Bare Bones Software, is becoming the text editor I turn to most often when I have only text to process. Find out why in this article.

wpdfd - HomeSite and BBEdit - I've never tried to cut a wooden log in two with a penknife, though I'm sure it can be done. People will tell you that you can build a Web page with a simple text editor and I know that's possible too, but life is just too short. There are better tools for the job.

spymac - Bare Bones releases BBEdit 8.1 - BBEdit 8.1 now includes support for Subversion, plus enhancements to its Text Factory feature, and various interface refinements and fixes for reported issues. The BBEdit 8.1 update is available free of charge to all registered BBEdit 8 customers.

spymac - BBEdit 8.0.3 - It has fallen upon me to write a review for Bare Bones' latest release of BBEdit. As you read this I hope you will keep in mind that that I am a programmer by trade and not a columnist. So forgive me if this review doesn't have the same flair as something our beloved Spymac news writers might produce.

BBEdit is one of the most powerful text-editing packages available on any software platform, filling a specific niche that is under-served by visual HTML authoring software. Our original review of the software package, published earlier this year, highlighted one or two minor complaints about this otherwise very solid tool. With a couple of minor updates having been published by Bare Bones Software since that initial review, however, our list of complaints is dwindling!

encyclopediaglossary - BBEdit - BBEdit is a text editor previously for Mac OS Classic and now for Mac OS X. It is made by Bare Bones Software. BBEdit is self-consciously not a word processor, meaning it does not have text formatting or page layout features. BBEdit's audience includes programmers and web designers.

applepedia - BBEdit - Bare Bones Software also made a free and less-featured version of BBEdit called BBEdit Lite. They discontinued BBEdit Lite at version 6.1 and replaced it with TextWrangler, which initially cost money (though significantly less than BBEdit), then several years later was released for free.

nanriver - BBEdit - BBEdit has more features and is widely lauded as the best text editor on the Mac. It is, also insanely expensive. However, any users of TextWrangler are able to get it at a marginal discount through their upgrade program.

wiki.43folders - BBEdit - BBEdit is the granddaddy of text editors for the Macintosh, as fiercely loved by its partisans as emacs and vi are in the other neck of the woods. For many years, if you're a Mac web designer, either you're using a WYSIWYG app like Dreamweaver, or you're handcoding in BBEdit.
